The series then took a massive jump with The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in 2011, which took the game’s storytelling to the next level and saw a massive leap in gameplay. While its story and writing was solid, building off of the already established book series, the gameplay is incredibly rough and not exactly the most fun game to play. The Witcher, released in 2009, was CD Projekt Red’s first attempt at making a video game and it certainly felt that way. If CD Projekt Red’s Witcher series felt like it came out of nowhere, it sort of did. No other game could match it and it made any other game I tried to play feel almost pointless. The Witcher 3 was an incredible journey in a beautiful world full of amazing stories and was unlike any other gaming experience I’ve ever had. Between the base game and both of its expansions, The Witcher 3 took me well over 150 hours to complete and was the greatest value I’ve ever gotten from a game. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is far and away the best game that I’ve ever played. And it would take forever to list the rest of the decade’s best games, but in my eyes, one game clearly stood out from the rest. The list of winners for The Game Awards/Spike Video Game Awards’ Game of the Year title was a damn impressive one Red Dead Redemption, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, The Walking Dead (Telltale Games), Grand Theft Auto V, Dragon Age: Inquisition, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Overwatch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, God of War and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. There were certainly plenty of great games released in the 2010s. I will take literally any excuse to profess my love for this game.
